A lift kit is the job most people are really asking about when they ring up about suspension. More clearance, room for bigger tyres, and a vehicle that sits level once the bar work and touring gear is on it.
We supply and fit Dobinsons suspension lift kits in our Cairns workshop, matched to your vehicle and the weight it actually carries rather than whatever height sounds good.
What a lift kit job includes
- Matched springs and shocks, chosen for your load, not just your lift height.
- The supporting parts, bump stops, bushes, U-bolts and extended brake lines where the setup needs them.
- Fitted by licensed mechanics, with everything torqued and checked properly.
- A wheel alignment to finish, because a lifted 4WD that has not been realigned will eat tyres.
How High Can You Legally Lift in Queensland?
Worth knowing before you spend money. In Queensland you can generally raise a light vehicle by up to 50mm in total, suspension and tyres combined, without needing a modification approval. Go beyond that and the vehicle needs to be certified by an approved person.
That is why a two inch lift is the popular choice, it gets you most of the practical benefit and keeps the paperwork simple. If you want to go higher we will tell you straight what is involved before we start, not after.
We will also be honest about what a lift will and will not fix. If the real problem is a sagging rear end under load, the answer is the right rated springs, not more height.

Generally up to 50mm in total, counting suspension and tyre size together. Anything above that needs approval from an approved person. We will work out where your build sits before any work starts.
Will a lift kit affect my insurance?
Modifications should always be declared to your insurer. A compliant lift done properly is normally straightforward, but it is your insurer who decides, so tell them.
Do I need new shocks with a lift kit?
Yes. Standard shocks are not built for the extra travel and will wear out fast, which is why a proper kit pairs springs with shocks designed to work together.
Can I fit bigger tyres at the same time?
Usually, and it is the sensible time to do it. Remember the tyre increase counts towards your total height. Tell us what tyres you are planning and we will factor them in.
How long does fitting a lift kit take?
Most are a day in the workshop including the alignment. If the vehicle has seized or badly worn components we will call you before doing anything extra.
